Administrative History

Phi Sigma Sigma was founded at Hunter College in New York City on November 26, 1913. The local Beta Rho Chapter was established in 1961 and is still an active sorority on campus.

Their mission statement: "To inspire the personal development of each sister and perpetuate the advancement of womanhood.”

Scope and content note

The Phi Sigma Sigma records primarily consists of sorority memorabilia and printed materials that document various rush events, pledge celebrations, philanthropic events, and mixers during the 1960s and 1980s.

The first series, Memorabilia, consist of one beanie, one 1982 pledge pin, wooden paddle, and a pledge notebook

The second series, Sorority events, consists of programs, menus, and agendas for sorority events.

The third series, Printed materials, consists of a clipping from the Cinderfella philanthropic event, pledge manual, and one issue of the Sphinx newsletter from 1994.

The fourth series, Photographs, consists of one photo of the class of 1965 roster.
