Abstract: Online Social Network Services (SNS) have become an important part of young adults’ social life. They communicate with friends or unknown people, and share information through SNS. Various SNS providers have emerged in many countries. There are more than 200 online social network services. Since 2008, SNS users have dramatically increased in number. With fast changing information technology trends and flexible services, SNS have been adopted as social devices by a broad range of members of society (Boyd and Ellison 2008). People can have SNS accounts with different services. Some people create multiple accounts with one service and others create single accounts in multiple individual services. Postings on one site can be synchronized with other SNS in real time. In these circumstances, having multiple SNS accounts would be common, but little is known about the use of multiple SNS and how people manage and network social information through them. Previous studies have focused on usage patterns and information disclosure which are usually examined in one specific social network site. However, users’ activity is more dynamic with various social groups in multiple SNS. Social networking has become more complex and online interaction patterns would be more dynamic. The goal of this study is to explore behaviors of users with multiple SNS accounts. The study will focus on three research questions: 1) why do people have more than one account; 2) how do people manage multiple accounts; 3) what are the probable effects of multiple SNS. The study results will show the overall usage patterns of users with multiple SNS accounts. The results could provide data to support better SNS design reflecting user behaviors.
