| Abstract: | Transferring knowledge gained from one knowledge domain to another is always a challenge. Interaction patterns have been suggested as means to bridge human computer interaction (HCI) and the software engineering (SE) communities to transfer expertise. It has been argued that poor accessibility of HCI based interaction patterns is a reason for its lack of acceptance by SE design community. A case-based-reasoning (CBR) approach has been applied for retrieving “software” patterns but has not been exploited for interaction patterns. Interaction patterns are written in natural language and simple to understand. This existing pattern structure and format enhances readability but does not lend this advantage to retrieval. This research demonstrates how CBR could be applied to select candidate interaction patterns from a case-base (pattern repository). The selection is based on a computed similarity between interaction patterns and a design problem space (web-design). In doing so we also suggest improvements to the existing pattern format/structure in order to enhance accessibility. |
